How to Set Up OBD2 ELM WiFi

First, ensure you have an OBD2 ELM327 adapter with WiFi capability. Plug it into your car’s OBD2 port and turn the ignition on or start the engine. If your adapter has a power button, press it.

Connecting to Your OBD2 Adapter’s WiFi Network

Step 1: Access WiFi Settings: Open your phone or tablet’s WiFi settings (not the Car Scanner app settings) and enable WiFi.

Step 2: Locate and Connect to the Adapter’s Network: Find the WiFi network broadcasted by your ELM327 adapter. Common names include “OBDII,” “OBD2,” “WIFI_OBDII,” or variations incorporating the adapter brand (e.g., “VLINK” for VGate adapters). Your car’s brand name will not be used for the adapter’s network. Most adapters don’t require a WiFi password, but consult your adapter’s documentation if one is needed.

Configuring the Car Scanner App

Step 3: Open Car Scanner and Access Settings: Launch the Car Scanner app and navigate to Settings (gear icon in the top-right corner).

Step 4: Select “Adapter” Settings: Tap on “Adapter” (or “Connection” in older app versions).

Step 5: Choose WiFi Connection Type: Select “Wi-Fi” as the connection type.

Step 6: Verify IP Address and Port: Confirm the adapter’s IP address and port are correct. The default for most adapters is 192.168.0.10 for the IP address and 35000 for the port. However, refer to your adapter’s documentation to verify these settings, as they might vary.

Establishing the Connection

Step 7: Initiate Connection: Tap the green “Connect” button.

For subsequent connections, ensure you’re connected to the OBD2 WiFi network and simply tap “Connect.”
