The Dakota Digital BIM-01-2 interface bridges the gap between your vehicle’s OBD2 port and a digital instrument cluster. This device taps into the Engine Control Module (ECM) via the OBD-II port, using J1850/CAN protocols, to provide essential engine and transmission data for compatible Dakota Digital systems. This allows for a seamless transition from a traditional analog cluster to a modern digital display.
Data Acquisition and Compatibility
The BIM-01-2 interface is capable of extracting a wide range of data points from your vehicle’s ECM, transmitting them to compatible Dakota Digital instrument systems (GRFX, RTX, HDX, VHX, and VFD3 with a black plastic control module). For systems with a 3.5mm headphone jack BIM input, the 394194 adapter harness is required.
Core data available on most OBD2-equipped vehicles includes:
- Speedometer
- Tachometer
- Engine Temperature
- Check Engine Indicator
Vehicle-specific data, which may vary depending on the make, model, and year, can include:
- Intake Air Temperature
- Transmission Temperature
- Ambient Air Temperature
- Gear Position
- Oil Pressure
- Boost Pressure
It’s important to note that the availability and accuracy of certain data points, particularly those beyond the core four, depend on the functionality of the vehicle’s ECM and its associated sensors. Dakota Digital cannot guarantee the accuracy of Coolant Temperature, Intake Air Temperature, Transmission Temperature, Ambient Air Temperature, Oil Pressure, Boost Pressure, or Gear Position data due to these dependencies.
OBD-II Protocol Support and GM Connect & Cruise
The BIM-01-2 is compatible with J1850 VPW, J1850 PWM, and ISO 15765 CAN 500k 11-bit identifier OBD-II protocols that adhere to the SAE J1979 PID protocol. Notably, vehicles equipped with GM Connect & Cruise packages do not transmit gear position data, rendering the BIM-01-2 unable to acquire this specific information.
Ensuring Compatibility
While the BIM-01-2 supports a broad range of vehicles, confirming compatibility before purchase is crucial. If you have concerns about your specific vehicle’s compatibility with the BIM-01-2 interface, consulting Dakota Digital’s sales or technical department is recommended. They can provide definitive answers and guide you towards the best solution for your digital cluster conversion. Connecting your Digital Cluster To Obd2 with the BIM-01-2 unlocks a wealth of real-time vehicle data, enhancing your driving experience with accurate and comprehensive information.
