The MilGears suite is composed of four core navy career tools, each designed to address specific aspects of career management and development: Engage My Career (EMC), Quick Explorer (QE), Military-2-Mariner (M2M), and Cyber IT/CSWF (Cyber Information Technology/Cybersecurity Workforce).

Engage My Career (EMC) stands as the central pillar of the MilGears platform. This powerful tool is engineered to meticulously match a service member’s military background and training with relevant job opportunities. EMC goes beyond traditional assessments by considering both formal and informal learning experiences. It delivers a personalized report, uniquely tailored to each individual’s qualifications, offering concrete next steps for career advancement.

Quick Explorer (QE) offers a streamlined way to experience the capabilities of MilGears without requiring extensive personal data input upfront. This tool allows users to explore a broad spectrum of information related to military occupations, Cybersecurity workforce roles, credentials, and various career paths and interests. It’s an ideal starting point for those beginning to consider their career options within or after their navy service.

The Military-2-Mariner (M2M) tool is specifically designed to evaluate a service member’s sea service, military training, and experience against the requirements for Merchant Mariner credentials issued by the Coast Guard. M2M provides clear guidance on navigating the National Maritime Center (NMC) application process, offering an application assist guide with step-by-step instructions and direct links to essential forms. This tool is invaluable for navy personnel looking to transition their skills to civilian maritime careers.

The Cyber IT/CSWF tool serves to analyze a user’s experience, training, education, and credentials in relation to the Defense Cyber Workforce Framework (DCWF) work role requirements. It identifies potential skill gaps and highlights classifications that can enhance a service member’s competitiveness in the cybersecurity industry. As part of the DOD-wide MilGears platform, this tool helps service members across all branches to strategically plan their careers in the rapidly growing cyber domain.

By offering this suite of navy career tools, MilGears empowers service members throughout their entire career lifecycle.
